Why You Need a Home Warranty Plan

The hunt for a home is an emotional experience, and finding the perfect setting for your family to flourish is no easy task. Combine the emotional stress of searching with the costs and maintenance required of homeowners, and it’s no wonder fewer Americans are choosing to buy a home. However, what many homeowners don’t realize, (first-time homeowner’s especially) is that there is another layer of protection you can utilize to make homeowning a simpler, less exhausting process.

Home warranty plans offer protection against everyday life, covering the items that receive constant use from failure. Investing in a strong home warranty plan will keep your budget on track when the expensive components of your home break. Your home warranty will cover the cost to repair or replace items such as:

• Heating and cooling systems

• Electrical and plumbing systems

• Water Heaters

• Dishwashers

• Washing and drying machines

• Refrigerators

A yearly expense that can save you thousands in the long run, a home warranty complements homeowners insurance and ensures that you are adequately covered when inconvenience strikes. Safeguarding your investment, a home warranty will pick up the slack where your homeowner’s insurance fails.

So, if your roof is blown off in a huge storm, that is a homeowner’s insurance problem. You’d pay your deductible, and your insurance company would cover the rest. If your dishwasher goes out or your air conditioner breaks in the middle of August, your homeowner’s insurance wouldn’t cover those items. If, however, you have invested in a home warranty, both your dishwasher and your air conditioner would be repaired or replaced with minimal effort and funds on your part.

There are multiple options to suit your budget while fulfilling your needs. When you realize a home warranty is well worth the money, research your options to ensure that all your major appliances and home systems are covered under your warranty. You’ll also want to determine what fees and responsibilities will be your problem when disaster strikes.

6 Housewarming Gift Ideas They’ll Love

One of the many aspects of adulthood includes celebrating the enormous accomplishments of your loved ones. Buying a new home is such an exciting, draining adventure, that a housewarming gift to help get them settled is a thoughtful must. To make the homeowning journey simpler, consider investing in home warranty plans that cover day to day items that homeowner’s insurance doesn’t.

Something that smells good

Smell hugely affects our environment, so gifting a smell that you know the person will love helps them settle into “home” much quicker. Not sure what smell leaves them feeling content? Opt to purchase a multipack of essential oils or candle sampler pack so they can choose their favorite.

A nearly unkillable plant

Not only are succulents all the rage in decorating right now, but they are also almost impossible to kill, no matter how green your thumb isn’t. You water them once a week, and even if you forget, they’ll live, making them an excellent low maintenance gift. Plant them in a stylish pot that will match anything, and you have a winning gift on your hands.

A hint of sparkle

Geode accessories elevate the design of any room while adding a flair of drama. Whether you believe in the healing properties they possess, many love incorporating their chic, earthy elements into their home. From bookends to gold rimmed coasters, gift next level sophistication to the person on your list.

Enhanced protection

What a home warranty lacks in drama, it will make up for in sheer usefulness. Acting as a protection against the gap in coverage that homeowner’s insurance can leave, a home warranty is an excellent gift that will give you peace of mind. Covering items that break down from wear and tear such as washers and dryers, electrical systems, and kitchen appliances, your favorite homeowner, will have their new investment fully covered with the gift of a home warranty.

Read between the lines

Homeownership is not for the faint of heart. If you’re gifting to the first-time owner, consider a lifestyle book that will come in handy in the long run. A detailed book on home maintenance, a cookbook rife with new recipes, or something that will get people talking for the coffee table, a great book is always useful.

Skip the swear jar

For the homeowner that has literally everything, spring for a funny, sweary mug that will make Monday mornings more bearable. The perfect gift for the potty mouth in your life. Etsy has an amazing selection of perfectly inappropriate mugs.

5 Bathroom Updates That Won’t Bust Your Budget

If you love to DIY, homeownership is a dynamite opportunity to dive deep into your creative well. It’s exceptionally easy to focus on the fun aspects of home ownership when you don’t have to worry about budgeting for emergencies such as appliance and system malfunctions. It’s an excellent idea to budget for a home warranty that protects large items from everyday wear and tear. A home warranty works in conjunction with your homeowner’s insurance to fill the gap in coverage, allowing you to focus on making your house a home.

Making your home a space that reflects your individuality and style is not as difficult as it might seem. No matter your tastes, here are five ideas to refresh your bathroom without breaking the bank.

1. Focus on the hardware

Even if you buy your home brand new, chances are the knobs, pulls, and towel racks are all brushed nickel. It’s easy to liven things up by switching to a different metal (even brass is making a comeback). For a bohemian or farmhouse look, mix and match metals and textures to achieve an individual flare. A great example of mixing texture and metal would be copper pulls on cabinets and raw crystal knobs on drawers.

2. Pick a new shade

Bathrooms are the perfect place to experiment with color as they are often small, and if they don’t include a window, they can seem gloomy. Ditch the safe zone and embrace a bolder palette with a bright pastel or vibrant tones you’d see in the Caribbean. If you can’t embrace a full-on color scheme makeover, start small and paint the vanity with a bold choice and keep the walls a soft neutral, such as gray or greige.

3. Rejuvenate your reflection

Mirrors are a quick and easy update. They cost next to nothing, but modernizing them can transform an entire wall in your bathroom. Antique mirrors look excellent in modern bathrooms and can be acquired on the cheap. If you don’t want to hunt for the perfect option, merely frame out the mirror you have for a quick fix that packs a big punch.

4. Add functional storage

Relaxing in a cluttered bathroom is almost impossible. Fresh storage options will keep you organized and are fairly easy to find and install.

• For everyday items, bring the spa home with stylish glass containers.

• Hang hooks that suit your style for robes and bath towels.

• Group similar extras (such as hand soap) together with chic baskets.

• If you have kids or roommates, paint and hang crates on the wall with coordinating name labels to keep everyone organized.

5. Spring for a bonus

You can implant some luxury while maintaining your budget. Spring for a touchless toilet, or better yet, one that cleans itself. You can also enhance your daily shower routine with a new deluxe showerhead. If you have a spare wall, it’s an excellent opportunity to install a heated towel rack for an ultimate spa experience.

Protect the investment into your home by allocating funds for a home warranty plans option that provides access to reliable service contractors and makes filing a claim a stress-free process.

Extending the Life of Your Kitchen Appliances

For many, the kitchen is the hub of the home. Keeping your appliances in good working order allows your kitchen to serve the needs of your family. The easiest way to extend the life of your appliances is to administer a little elbow grease to the parts that matter.

Even with every attention placed on lengthening the life of your appliances, things will wear down and break eventually. Do your budget a favor and invest in a home warranty plans option that suits your needs and covers the gap homeowner’s insurance often leaves.

Dishwasher

The workhorse of your kitchen, your dishwasher takes whatever you throw in there, but it shouldn’t have to. Keep your dishwasher clog-free by thoroughly scraping dirty dishes before you wash them.

You can also skip expensive dishwasher cleaners. Instead, clean it easily by sprinkling baking soda in the base of the empty dishwasher and putting a cup of white vinegar in the top rack, run as normal. This concoction cleans out any offensive odors and leaves your dishwasher gleaming.

Microwave

Germs can thrive in a microwave environment, and running your microwave does not sterilize bacteria. In fact, it can be one of the dirtiest, most germ-ridden spots in your kitchen (especially the handle). Regularly clean the inside and outside of your microwave, paying special attention to the outside handle and buttons.

To clean an especially gunk covered microwave, place ½ cup white vinegar and ½ cup water in a microwave-safe bowl, and zap for up to 5 minutes. To prevent an explosion during this process, place a toothpick in the bowl while microwaving. Wipe clean after.

Garbage Disposal

Another appliance that regularly takes the brunt of everyday living. Despite having garbage in the name, you really shouldn’t put things in there that you would normally throw away. Egg shells and grease, for example, will reduce the life of your disposal and lead to clogging.

Cut grease with an environmentally safe cleaner. Use the peel from an orange or lemon, place it in a microwave-safe bowl and cover the peel with water. Microwave until very hot and then dump it all down the disposal drain and run simultaneously with a slow stream of hot water from the faucet.

Fridge

Did you know that a fridge that experiences average wear and tear should last around 13 years? To keep it cool and running smoothly, get rid of the dirt that can accumulate on the coils (they are located either on the backside or front bottom of the fridge). When they get filthy, it causes a reduction in airflow which can lead to overheating and burnout.

Oven

Dirty ovens work harder to heat, which can ultimately lead to early burnout. Using the self-clean feature takes a minimum of 2 hours, and can last up to 5. Also, using this feature heats the oven to over 900 degrees and repeated use can shorten the life of your appliance.

Instead, create a baking soda and water paste and apply to the door and bottom of the oven and allow to sit for up to 12 hours. When you’re ready, rewet the paste and scrub off built-up grime with a sturdy sponge.

Investing in a Home Warranty

A home warranty acts as a safeguard for the things that keep a house running smoothly. Electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and major appliances are covered, allowing the home warranty cost to pay for itself. Investing in a strong home warranty plan will keep your budget on track when such expensive items eventually break. It will also remove the headache that comes with having such items repaired and replaced.
